Application The Tributary Interface Module TIM is used as service slot card in the Falcon. Different types of physical interface modules are supported. All optical and electrical STM-1 interface modules can be used as well as STM-4 as tributary interface. DS3/E3 is available as well. The Line Termination (LT) modules can be plugged on the universal carrier board. The card supports header exchange. The VPI, VCI of incoming or outgoing ATM traffic can be changed in order to avoid conflicts in ATM networks due to doubled connections. Because of the internal redundant feed of the card automatic protection switching will be available. Either the network clock of the input interface of any card in the system, a local or an external clock reference can be selected. The card can be configured using the console port (RS232) or in combination with an installed controller card via Ethernet networks. All configuration parameters are stored locally and nonvolatile. The entire function of the module is controlled by the on-board CPU. The firmware is stored in the on-board Flash memory. The card supports hot-plug and hot-swap according to the Compact-PCI specification.
